I'm sorry I have not been able to source any references for you, re: roads and transport and artists, however, many refe to the marks man mkaes on the landscape, Joe Deal, Robert Adams, Richard Misrach, to name a few, either way, it looks like you are powering ahead, looking forward to your presentation.
